Great News !!!

I received a response to questions from Seattle's new superintendent of schools, Dr. Maria Goodloe-Johnson. This is the first time this school year that someone in the central administration has actually decided to answer substantive questions.

Welcome to the Goodloe-Johnson era.

Welcome to Dan Dempsey's Seattle Math Blog

As a State Board of Education Math panelist, and recently retired West Seattle High School math teacher, I am extremely concerned that the system of public education that once provided a service to children, parents, and the larger community has now become the Education Industry rather than a service.

I am running for Seattle School Board director from West Seattle-South Park.

I would greatly appreciate your comments on the transformation to the Education industry and what we might do to reverse this trend.

------------------------------------------

Well after the skeletal remains of what started out as math education reform passed through Gregorie's hands and into law, I've really come to expect that what comes out of our current State Board of Education Standards revision will be modified beyond recognition by OSPI.

What else could be expected?

Public Schooling has clearly become nothing more than an industry.

Only a revolt appears to have any hope from stopping this machine from rolling over the public.

Clearly input no matter from what level is going to be ignored or revised to such an extent that the impact is so diluted it is inconsequential.

System crushes individual.

Democracy, Localization, and Competition are being overwhelmed by

Autocratic Centralization with no regard for measurable outcomes.

Glad I started teaching in 1968 in Idaho, long before this movement ended teaching as I knew it.
